Lithium-Ion-Batteries. Small power plants.

Lithium-based batteries are characterized by their very high specific energy and power as well as a good cycle stability without memory effect. From the many different available shapes, round cells of the type 18650 are the most common.

For instance, they are commonly used in electric hand tools and laptops, but also in electric vehicles (Tesla Motors, Inc.). Since the amount of energy stored in one single cell is comparatively small, 18650 cells are also considered to be very safe.

CONCHIFERA Technology. Economical, efficient, safe.

While most assemblers are connecting the battery cells by welding, which is a highly time-consuming process, in the case of CONCHIFERA the cells are directly clamped between two aluminum circuit boards. Contact Pads made of FANTASTIUM, a very elastic and highly conductive material, provide a reliable and vibration-resistant contact. The aluminum circuit boards not only contain the electrical wiring, but also serve as a cooling surface at the same time. The heat is not transferred via the lateral surface of the cell, but via the electrical poles.

Due to the integral design and the compact arrangement of the battery cells, CONCHIFERA battery modules provide an outstanding energy density. At the same time, they can be produced very economically by using standardized 18650 round cells and a very simple manufacturing process. In contrast to the established welding processes, there is absolutely no heat input into the battery cells, which could accelerate their aging, during the assembly. During use, the heat can very efficiently be extracted from the battery cell via the electrical contacts. The ideal and homogenous thermal conditioning leads to a very high lifetime. In addition, the reversible clamping connection allows easy replacement of defective battery cells.

Battery Management System. Intelligent Monitoring.

During operation, lithium-ion battery cells must be electronically monitored by a battery management system (BMS) to avoid hazardous conditions, in particular overcharging, undercharging and overheating. In addition, the BMS can be used to determine the state of charge of the battery.

INVENOX uses a proprietary, highly capable BMS, which continuously measures and assesses the voltage of each single cell, the temperature distribution in the battery module and other parameters. Parallel monitoring on two separate levels ensures maximum reliability. Complex non-linear algorithms for state estimation facilitate the highly precise determination of the state of charge and state of health. In addition, the INVENOX BMS provides a data logging functionality and can be equipped with a direct server connection via GSM.

Modularity. Various Possibilities.

Due to the modular Design, CONCHIFERA battery modules can be built in many different sizes and shapes. The electrical voltage can also easily be varied to create battery modules with, for instance, 12, 24, 36 or 48 V. It is also possible to connect several battery modules to a high-voltage battery system. Depending on the application, an air or liquid cooling may be used. The final assembly of the battery modules can either be done by INVENOX or locally at the customer’s facilities (worldwide).
